Tools of Paganism: Energy, Magic, and Spells

The SunMany people find this blog because they are looking for information about how to cast spells, or they simply want to find text for spells. I don’t know much about the people searching for these terms, but I know it’s safe to assume that not all of them are responsible, educated practitioners of magic or energy. This is one reason I have not really posted specifically on this topic in the past.

Another reason is that this blog, unlike the other blog I maintain, is very personal and contains many introspective remarks; I post frequently about my feelings on here. Truth be told, my feelings on using spells are very wishy washy. While it’s totally fascinating for me to research and describe information about Voodoo and Vodun, for example, does it change my beliefs? No. The information simply broadens my perspective and offers me insight into how others view and use the spiritual world around us.

Back when I started this blog, I described my pagan universalist beliefs. I feel like my lack of willingness to confront and describe spells goes beyond a concern of safety for my readers; it’s about denying my own abilities. I do not and will not sit there and actively channel a reality into being by using a spell. However, I respect the power of spells (and the energy used to create them) and understand their place in the world–I just have that feeling like I’m not supposed to mess with it. Sure, I do and have done self-affirming rituals on my very own ‘who am I?’ quest…but nothing as concentrated as a spell.

With my thoughts on the paranormal as of recent, as well as discussions of the paranormal and energy manifestations primarily with my Christian fiance, I have adopted a more universal approach to the crafting of spells. Really, spellcasting is a use of energy. Ghosts use energy. People use energy for everything, from moving to breathing to eating to thinking; our world moves on it. Therefore, spellcasting is simply a focusing of that energy, with varying potential.

Here’s today’s epiphany as I see it: good business people and customer service representatives, for example, are masters of spellcraft. They understand how to channel their own exuberance, energy, and tolerance so that others more clearly understand them. In this sense, I cast spells all of the time–and should probably be more balanced about it.
